Tiny Ties Privacy Notice

Last updated: January 10, 2026

1. Scope

Although the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (collectively, "CCPA"), generally exempts nonprofits, we voluntarily follow the CCPA's core requirements to protect the privacy of the families we serve.

2. Categories of Personal Information We Collect

  • Identifiers — name, street address, phone number, ZIP code — to create matches between donor and recipient families, verify eligibility, and facilitate delivery and follow-up.
  • Household characteristics — number of children in the household — for the same purposes.
  • Inferred data — family-size groupings we create internally — for the same purposes.
  • Photos and item descriptions — pictures and text you send to our concierge SMS number to list items for giveaway.
  • SMS conversation content — messages exchanged with our concierge number and between donor/recipient through our anonymous relay numbers, used to connect neighbors, detect when items have been picked up, and keep listings fresh.

We collect this information directly from you when you text us or use the website. We keep the data only as long as needed to operate the program, then securely delete or anonymize it.

3. How We Use — and Share — Information

  • Matchmaking: We share a recipient's first name, neighborhood, and item interest with the matched donor.
  • No sales / no targeted ads: We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • Service providers: We disclose information to trusted service providers (cloud storage, SMS carriers such as Twilio, AI classification providers) under contracts that limit use to our instructions.
  • No sharing with third parties for their own marketing: Personal information collected through SMS (including phone numbers and message content) will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.
  • Legal obligations & safety: We may disclose data if required by law or to protect anyone's safety.

4. SMS Messaging & A2P 10DLC

Tiny Ties operates two SMS programs on U.S. phone numbers registered under A2P 10DLC:

  • Concierge: when you text our concierge number, we reply to help you list items, confirm details, and send you a magic link to manage your listings.
  • Anonymous relay: when a neighbor asks about your item (or vice versa), we assign a temporary Tiny Ties number that relays messages between the two of you without revealing either phone number.

Consent. By texting our concierge number, or by tapping "Message" on a listing and confirming your phone number, you consent to receive SMS messages from Tiny Ties related to that activity.

Message frequency. Message frequency varies based on your activity (typically 1–10 messages per active conversation).

Message and data rates may apply. Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply.

Opt-out. Reply STOP to any Tiny Ties message to opt out. You will receive a confirmation and no further messages. Reply HELP for help, or email mytinyties@gmail.com.

Carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

5. Your CCPA Rights

Even though we are a nonprofit, we honor CCPA rights upon verified request:

  • Right to Know / Access the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collected about you.
  • Right to Delete personal information we collected, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Right to Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination for exercising these rights.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information (not applicable now, because we do not collect information the CCPA defines as "sensitive" beyond mailing addresses).

You (or your authorized agent) can submit a request by emailing mytinyties@gmail.com. We will verify your identity by matching at least two data points (e.g., phone number and address) and respond within 45 days.

6. Children

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Parents or guardians may request deletion using the process above.

7. Data Security

We employ reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards (encryption in transit, access-controlled cloud storage, volunteer confidentiality agreements) to protect your information.

8. Changes to This Notice

If we change the types of data we collect, the way we use it, or begin selling or sharing data, we will update this notice at least 30 days before the change takes effect.

9. Car Seat Safety Note

Car seat donations cannot be expired or in a prior accident.
